@kendraendra douching has no effect on UTI (urinary tract infection) or bladder infections. Douche just rinses out the vagina, and generally is not needed to maintain health. In fact douching can strip away the natural balance of bacteria and yeast WHILE screwing up the vaginal ph. The vagina is like a self cleaning oven. The discharge normal healthy women have helps flush the vagina and keeps it moist.
Some women actually get infections more because they douche and remove the normal flora that would fight and correct an imbalance.
For UTI and bladder, a low sugar low carb diet, with a complete b complex supplement (all providers should take this) along with regular vitamin C intake will often keep problems to a minimum.
Sugar and carbs (that break down to sugars) pass into the urine and provide the food energy for bacteria to grow quickly. Starving the bacteria of sugar gives your body a chance to keep balance. The cranberry 'trick' only works if you drink unsweetened cranberry juice (again sweetened has sugar) most people can't drink the super tart jiuce without sugar. The reason cranberry is suggested is it makes the urine more acid, which bacteria can't thrive in.
So vit C is ascorbic acid, and can have the very same effect. I love the chewable C tablets from GNC, they are like sweet tart candy. Since our bodies can't store vit C, you should get daily doses, preferably from food.
If I feel a little bladder discomfort or cystitis, I up my sub-lingual vit B, and chew 1 or 2 vit C tablets an hour. I haven't had a real bladder infection in 30 years since learning these methods.
It's also helpful to drink lots of water, which dilutes the bacteria and flushes them out.
It may be helpful to avoid sex that rubs along the top of the vagina where the urethra can be irritated. When the urethra gets irritated, it can become raw adn swollen and that rawness is an entry point for bacteria.
I wonder if a woman ejaculates that would be as effective as urinating after sex. Sure would be way more fun!
