"permanent make-up?"

I have been giving some thought as of late about perm. make-up but am a little unsure about who it works.

I have major eye brow issue - I hate mine and they are just funky looking all the time, Im totally clueless to painting them on and if I do try to do that they just rub off and then I look like a freak.

So, what exactly is permanent make-up? Does it last forever? Do i wax off my own eye brows if I got the perm make-up? Does things like alpha hydroxy products lighten or take off (eventually) the make-up? Does it hurt?

im not interested in trying lip liner or eye liner, just my eyebrows.

Thanks for any advice

I think pemanent make up is tattooing. It usually is with eyeliner so I don't know about eyebrows. Did you try Google?

I Had Mine Done On Valentines Day....A Gift To Myself...
Cost...150$ With One Free Touchup...

My Esthetition Is 'Forever Young by Janet'...She Is From Armenia And Part Of The Large Assyrian Population Here In The CV...Very Sweet Woman...

My Color Is Light Ash Brown Mixed With Some Cocoa...
I Drew The Lines Myself And I Would Not Let The Esthetition Shave Off My Eyebrows...

My Thin Lines Are To Enhance My Eyebrows And Make Them Darker Without Eyeliner Pencil Or Other Cakey Or Gooey Products...

It Is A Tatoo Gun...Delicate Looking...And It Does Irritate The Sneezing Nerve...So There Is Plenty Of Kleenexes Handy Because You Will Sneeze 100 Times...!!!

It Is Kinda Painful...More Irritating During The Proceedure But Hurts Later...
Take Some Motrin Before You Go For Your Appointment...And Buy The Bacitracin Ointment And Apply Frequently...

The Tatooed Eyebrows Will Form A Crusty Scab Within A Week And Begin To Flake Off...Don't Force It...
Then You Have A Nice..Wonderful Line Or Whatever You Are Looking For...
Some Women Request Thick Whole Areas Done And Filled In...But I Didn't Wish For That Look...

I Wear Bangs So My Eyebrows Were Concealed And Healed Well...
When The Wind Blows Now I Am Not Self Conscious About My Eyebrows...Or The Middle Of My Forehead Between My Eyes Because I Had Botox In May...Smoothing Out My Frown Lines...

I Will Have A Touch-Up This Month...Usually Within 6 Months A Person Needs A Touch-Up For Fading...Cost...$50...

Just Watch Your Coloring And See A Reputable Esthetition...

Some Blacks Can Fade To Blue Over Time And Some Light Browns Can Turn Orange...Withour Regular Mainteinence...

Sincerely Yours......Cameron

Thanks for the info Cameron I swear girl you have the best advice when it comes to this stuff!!! I really enjoy your posts and you vast knowledge on some many beauty subjects My only concern is that I have naturally black eyebrows which is really weird becuase Im very fair skinned and have light hair everywhere else on my body, must be a mutant hair gene. I dont really want tattoo black eyebrows. I use an auburn/brow pencil now.

Thank you and I will be doing some research to find someone a little more local to my area who has a good reputation.

Now if I could only learn to sleep on my back....lol I wouldnt have any lines!!

kisses and hugs

Just had a 7 month Touch-up to My Eyebrows...

Cost 75$ with One Free Touch-Up 1 month later...
Lasts 6-7 Months before fading...

The Dye is NOT the same as Tatooing Ink...so it Does Fade over time...
I am Happy with My Results...

Do Not take Any Aspirin before Tatooing-Permanent Makeup...the Bleeding Interferes with the Implantation of the Pigmentation of the Dye into the Skin...

Sincerely Yours......Cameron

I have not had eyebrows done, but had permanent eyeliner and lip color/liner done last summer. It turned out well, and it saves me makeup time every morning. So I'm happy with it.

They give you a topical anesthetic. It feels weird more than it hurts, though at times it seems to hit a nerve and there is pain.

Mine has not needed touch up, but I think the lips are getting lighter and may need touch up eventually. You still need to wear clear lip gloss over a lip enhancement for it to look good.

I was warned that sun exposure does fade permanent makeup color. Some people need touch up in a year, some in 3 years, some don't need touch up for even longer. That is what I was told.

The person who did mine is in Walnut Creek. She is wonderful, but I'm not sure if she would want her name put out on this site. Inbox me if you'd like her name.

Be sure not to eat seafood or vinegar, lemon juice, acid type things for 2 weeks after the procedure... to insure best results. the color will leave you if you do... or at least in many people it does.

Talk to someone before doing it. see other client's she has worked on before doing your job. don't be in a rush.

You'll love it and never look back.. you look great in the shower, when you wake up and after every one of those DFK sessions... and you won't worry about getting anything on pillow cases, sheets, white clothing, cups, glasses.. or having things melt, smear all over your purse... or glove compartment and you won't find yourself buying silly things from the beauty counter anymore... save a lot of time and trouble.. not ruining clothes..

Take vicodin for lips and eyeliner..about 20 mins before procedure, after you arrive at clinic, but numb it seems to be sufficient for eyebrows.

always go lighter on the first try... you can go darker on the touch up if you dare.

remember that the first results will look pretty scary.. because you are swollen for three days to a week.

lips look like Julia Roberts.

Eyebrows may seem too dramatic...
but later it settles down and looks natural.

find someone who speaks english. communicate is the key.

they should draw the look and you should agree to what you want to look like before anyone starts the procedure.

touch up every six months is probably normal.

150 for eyebrows is great.. lower prices in the valley.

in the s. bay its 300 for eyebrows..

600 for eyelids.. and so shopping around is impt.. but more impt to get a good job done....

it does not erase.

good luck

8. "I had my lips done (long sorry!)"
In response to message #6

and they look great. I had been thinking about getting alloderm lip implants when I got my boobs done. My girlfriend(an aesthetician) talked me out of it (thank God) and showed me pics of permanent lip color. (not just liner, the whole lip) It looked so much more natural than collegen or alloderm. (to me nothing looks more awful than huge, fake lips a la Melanie Griffith) And my lips do look fuller because the artist went outside my natural lip line. The color I chose looked pretty close to Mac Spice. They will fade and require touch-ups every couple of years. (the last time I got a touch-up was three years ago) But, be very careful! There are lots of artists out there that are not properly trained. The lady I went to had thirteen years experience and she does mostly paramedical work such as tattooing on nipples of women with mastectomys. And my girlfriend, the aethetician had seen a lot of her work. She charges around $1200 for the whole lip, but that includes three to four appointments. I got my lips numbed most of the times by a dentist. The times I didn't were REALLY painful. I had the biggest lips I ever saw on a human being the first day of the tattooing. So it is best to hide out the first three days after!

7. "RE: A few thoughts"
In response to message #0

I know we are talking about eyebrows and lips but there is a word of caution here. There are over 50 types of inks in the tatooing industry. While the vast majoritiy of persons recieving tatoos have not problems there are a few issues to think about.

People with allergies, eczema and other allergic skin disorders may want to think about this carefully. Once the ink is applied, if an allergic condition develops, the allergy may persist for a long time. The lips in particular would be difficult (IMO) to treat should an allergy develope. A few with sulfa allergies (commonly used for urinary tract infections) or benzocaine (dental/local anesthetic) may be more prone to tatoo ink allergies.

Another not well known problem is that the inks may mess up MRI scans. In particular scans of the face- unlikely that you would ever need a scan.... but...... Also, the ink with MRI sans can cause burning sensation. This should not be a problem with mammograms- different technology. Unless they wanted to follow-up an abnormality on a mammo with a MRI.

Of course there is also the worry of Hep-C and other infections.

Just a few thoughts to consider.

The couple of women I've known with eyebrow jobs look hideous. Seriously scary.

But, then again, I've probably seen many many more women who had great natural-looking jobs, where it wasn't readily identifiable.

I had my eyelashes dyed at Benefit the other day.
It was only about $15 and I was pretty pleased with the results.
I don't like using mascara but I like the way it looks.

15. "Lash Tinting + Elephant Pharmacy in the EB for Make-Up"
In response to message #10

LAST EDITED ON 30-Sep-03 AT 02:40 PM (PST)

hey Ruby, i like Benefit. i use their blushers and i'm happy with them. very, very subtle - hard to over-apply. $35 or so, but worth it. good products.

my latest beauty find is the Elephant Pharmacy in the EB. seriously, i'll take a trip over the bridge just to go there. it's on Shattuck near 15th, i think.

they have the largest all-natural beauty product counter i have seen anywhere. i bought Rose Silk Power from Jurlique - and threw away all my other powders. it's white but very translucent. it gives a pretty, very natural looking, matte finish. love it. and it's calming for the pores.

the Jurlique products are outta this world! expensive, but worth it. pure in the extreme.

as for lash tinting, it's not something i've thought of doing (mine are naturally black as is), but Penn at Gaia Tree is a great esthetician and that's a service she offers. i'm going to her next time i get my legs and kitty waxed. it's in Hayes Valley, and Gaia Tree is very much a Hayes Valley type of "fashion-forward" establishment. they have wonderful products - all natural, very pure, and effective. i've found that my complexion is MUCH better and less prone to outbreaks using very pure stuff.

just a couple tips for a girl who is into Benefit...

i wouldn't want the tattooing simply because I LIKE shopping for serious quality products! i don't want my life simpler in this way, and i'd also be afraid to alter my face permanently, flaws or no flaws. i guess i'm ok with flaws - i prefer women with a few flaws - because they look human, real. they look like themselves... but i guess we're like the guys. we have different tastes in ladies, too! i personally prefer beauty that emanates out from the inside, reflecting good health and good self-care.

xo,
j.

I've gotten my eyebrows permanently tattooed as well as my eyeliner (can you say OUCH!?!?!?)

The makeover ladies at MAC cosmetics say that the eyebrows are the key to your whole face.

For me, it is simply convenient. I just put on lipstick and I'm "made up." If you are serious about it, I recommend my permanent makeup guru. Please inbox me for details.

I'll see you soon so I can show you my eyebrows and eyeliner in person.

Good luck!
