Courtesy of the SF City Clinic, this chart has great information (just click on a STI to read more) on the various communicable diseases and how they may be spread:

the chart doesnt have the risk of getting papaloma virus from bbbjs. If you have a high risk of cervical cancer in your family you could run a risk for this everybody!

On this topic, the more info you have, the better. Allow me to give the info in my head. Don't take this as if from a medical person. This is just my understanding: Herpes is highly contagious IF the person is having an outbreak. Outbreaks range from 6X per year to never. There is medication to suppress outbreaks. There are two types of herpes: herpes simplex 1, mostly in the mouth (cold sores). Herpes Simplex 2 is mostly in the penis, vagina, or anus. Estimates of how many adults have herpes are going up. I have seen figures ranging from 25-90%.

The main concern is pregnancy. The unborn child of a woman with herpes is at risk for blindness, death, encephilitis, and who knows what else. I am now going to ramble: I am friends with a family whose 8 yr. old son is severely retarded, mobile but not very verbal. His Mom was unsuspectingly infected with herpes while pregnant, from her cheating husband. The baby got infected while in the womb, and never had a chance. He got encephilitis (spelling!)which is a swelling of the fluids around the brain. Now they are divorced. Mom takes on the Herculean task of raising the boy, because Dad is too busy. She is a saint!

It takes an awesome mom to carry on with a child with disabilities like this.
