"anyone know of low cost mental health services?"

I don't have insurance and would like to see a psychiatrist as I think I've got the blues. Anyone know of low cost services? I'm in Oakland.

Try contacting the Psychology Dept of your local university. Often grad students provide counseling as part of their education for very low rates or even free. Good luck!

I don't know the EB in particular, but call the city clinic. They should have a low cost psychiatric clinic they can refer you to. Or just call 1 (510) 849-2212, which is the Oakland/Berkeley crisis hotline. They should be able to tell you all your options.

Good luck,

Sunny

If you don't mind the trip over to SF, St. James Infirmary has an excellent psychiatrist. Better than low cost, it's free They also have counseling.

If you want counseling in the East Bay, you can go for peer counseling at the Berkeley Free Clinic. There's no psychiatrist there to prescribe meds though.

i have a friend who was able to get affordable therapy from jfk university by one of their graduate students. these folks work for the experience while getting their masters degrees.

she had a very good therapist, but her therapist has moved into private practice and is no longer affordable.

it might be worth a try.

I dunno' about Oakland, but in the city there is a suicide prevention/crisis center where you can go for help. I know that "suicide prevention/crisis" sounds pretty extreme if you are just dealing with a case of mild depression... but according to the info that I have, they will treat milder cases as well. They get you started there, and transition you out to a community based provider over the course of two months. Free/low cost transitional psychiatric services.

That is if you know you want to go the med/psych route., I am not so sure about affordable therapy, but it has to be out there, somewhere. Doesn't it?

Sorry to nag you, Claire..but getting health insurance should be a priority.

Inbox me if you need the contact info, or anything else...

Love,
Chloe

if you plan on getting any state funded medical such as medi-cal etc...you may want to be careful about telling the therapist about your job as an escort...because if you are frauding them and working while getting low cost medical, the therapist might report it.

being bad is good for your health

PS. I tell my therapist about everything I am doing within my escort biz and she is held by law to not say a word...Unless you are having or did harm someone else or are thinking about it......Thats the only time they can report anything...I have many years experience seeking therapist and this is the only thing they can and will tell...
